Memphis Safe Task Force Boasts Notable Decrease in Crime One Year Later

Last, the Memphis Safe Task Force marked one year since its creation, boasting a 35.7% decrease in crime compared to the year prior. The initiative is responsible for 12,747 arrests, 2,160 illegal firearms removed from the streets, and the recovery of 189 missing children. Memphis is now on track to reach a 25-year low in overall crime.

In a press release, the White House broke down the decrease in crime:

• Murders are down 36%.
• Sexual assaults are down 28%.
• Motor vehicle thefts are down 57%.
• Robberies are down 42%.
• Shoplifting is down 44%.
• Aggravated assaults are down 26%.

National and state leaders took the occasion to remark on the progress that the task force has made towards mitigating crime in Memphis.

On Memphis’ history of crime, the White House said, “That era is over. President Trump rejected the excuses, restored law and order, and once again proved that decline is a choice.”

Gubernatorial candidate Marsha Blackburn wrote on X, “One year ago today, the Memphis Safe Task Force was created, and we are ever so grateful for the progress made to make Memphis and West Tennessee safer. As your governor, I won’t stop until Memphis is the safest city in America.”

State Senator Brent Taylor stated, “Shelby County’s crime rate has been cut by at least half in just a few months thanks to the Memphis Safe Task Force, and I expect that trend to continue as repeat offenders are arrested and removed from the streets.”

The Memphis Safe Task Force is a joint operation between local law enforcement, Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Tennessee National Guard, and federal agencies with the purpose of ending violent and street crime in the city.
