COMMENTARY: Tennessee Needs Strong Values, Not Radical Socialism
Tennessee Today
On Tuesday, Democrats in Florida elected Democratic Socialist Angie Nixon to be their nominee for the United States Senate. In Michigan, progressive Abdul El-Sayed, who campaigned with the help of Senator Bernie Sanders, won the Democratic Senate nomination. At the end of June, Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros ousted a 15-term incumbent in the first district of Colorado. The list goes on for longer than any patriotic American feels comfortable with.
Across the country, a CBS News analysis found that two-thirds of House candidates endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America or Justice Democrats won their primaries this cycle. In all, 19 candidates endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America won their congressional primaries.
Unfortunately, this trend did not stop at the Tennessee border. In the new Ninth Congressional District, progressive State Rep. Justin Pearson secured the Democratic nomination. Backed by “the Squad” and Justice Democrats, Pearson beat his closest challenger by 41.6 points. Pearson initially gained statewide, and even national prominence due to his role in the “Tennessee Three” who protested on the Tennessee House floor in 2023.

Pearson will face Republican nominee Brent Taylor in the general election. Thankfully, Taylor is regarded as the favorite in this race, with the Cook Political Report rating the race as solid Republican.
While it is highly unlikely that this woke progressive will prevail in Tennessee, his nomination should create pause for every values-driven Tennessean.
Tennessee must stand strong in the face of socialism, promoting our conservative values at home and in DC. Tennessee needs to continue down the path of growth we’re on, reducing government interference to create a robust economy that will provide high-paying jobs for the next generation, not stifling our success with socialist policy. Tennessee has to be governed with our families — especially their safety and well-being — being the number one priority.
To do this, we must continue to elect strong conservative leaders who can further our values at the national, state, and local levels. We have the opportunity to elect Republicans in nine congressional seats and send an all Republican delegation to Congress. At home, we will get to elect Republican nominee Senator Marsha Blackburn to be governor of Tennessee. Blackburn is one of the conservative movement’s biggest fighters, and it will be great to see all that she can accomplish as the leader of our state.

Socialism and radical progressive policy may seem to be on the rise, but in Tennessee we will curb the tide. These woke ideologies have no place here, and when we elect Republicans up and down the ballot in November, that message will be clearer than ever.
