Tennessee Today

Yesterday, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise officially endorsed Johnny Garrett in the race for Tennessee’s 6th Congressional district.

Leader Scalise stated, “I am proud to endorse Johnny Garrett in Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District. Johnny Garrett is a Christian conservative, State Representative, and seventh-generation Tennessean dedicated to protecting President Trump’s America First movement. In Congress, he’ll defend conservative family values, grow our economy, and Make America Great Again!”

Johnny Garrett represents District 45 of the Tennessee House and has served as House Majority Whip since 2019. According to his campaign website, Representative Garrett initially ran for office because he saw the need for more America First fighters to rally alongside President Trump. A lawyer by trade, Representative Garrett continues to practice law in Sumner County representing small and medium-sized businesses.

In response to Leader Scalise’s endorsement, Representative Garrett said, “Majority Leader Scalise has been a steadfast voice in that fight, assisting President Trump as he ushered us into the Golden Age of America– just like he promised. I’m deeply humbled and honored to have his endorsement, and I look forward to working together to continue delivering real results for Tennesseans and the American people.”

Besides Johnny Garrett, there are three other candidates in the race for the Republican nomination in Tennessee’s 6th district: Natisha Brooks, Jon Henry, and Van Hilleary.

District 6 looks different than when the race kicked off, as Gov. Bill Lee signed into law a new Congressional map in May. It now covers a slightly different part of Davidson County, all of Wilson County and includes Smith, DeKalb, White, Putnam, Jackson, Clay, Pickett, Overton, Cumberland, Fentress, Scott, Morgan, and parts of Campbell, Rhea, and Sumner Counties.

The Republican primary is set to take place on August 6, 2026.
