MEMPHIS, TN — President Donald Trump will be in Memphis on Monday, putting a national spotlight on what many here see as real progress in the fight against crime.
The visit, announced by White House Regional Press Secretary Liz Huston, will focus on the Memphis Safe Task Force and what she called its “incredible achievements.” Huston said the effort shows how federal and state leaders can work together to “remove criminals from the streets and make Memphis safe again.”
The task force, led by the U.S. Marshals Service and supported by the Tennessee National Guard along with multiple federal, state, and local agencies, was launched last fall after a federal directive to crack down on violent crime in the city. Its mission is straightforward: target violent offenders, clear outstanding warrants, seize illegal guns, and help locate missing children.
Since launching on September 29, 2025, the operation has made more than 7,100 arrests, including dozens tied to homicide, while taking over 1,100 illegal firearms off the streets and locating nearly 150 missing children. For many Memphis families, that kind of impact hits close to home.
Local numbers are moving in the right direction too. Memphis Police reported notable crime reductions in 2025, including drops in murders, robberies, and overall violent crime, with homicides falling below 200 for the first time in years.
Around kitchen tables and front porches, folks will tell you the same thing: safer streets don’t happen by accident. They come from coordination, accountability, and putting resources where they’re needed most.
More details on the president’s visit have yet to be released, but for many across Memphis, Monday is shaping up to be about more than a headline. People across Tennessee are grateful for the national spotlight being put on a city working hard to turn the corner.
